Utahna Hancock attends the 2016 DBT Conference, continuing her education to help others overcome their struggles.
Utahna Hancock, who is a certified art therapist, and works with others to help control their anger management, also specializes in offering therapy for children, families, couples, and EDMR.

Last month Utahna attended the 2016 DBT Conference.  This 2-day conference focused on:  Day 1 - Dialectical Behavior Therapy: Basics and Beyond; and Day 2 - Advanced Dialectical Behavior Therapy.

DBT is an empirically validated approach for working with mental health, chemical dependency, and complete co-morbidity.  Designed to empower clients to establish mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness, self-sabatoging urges and behaviors, and challenging interpersonal styles.

Day 1:  Provided the understanding and foundation of the skills of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) as applied to clients with mental health and chemical dependency issues.  Going beyond symptom management, these skills are designed to improve functioning to build satisfying lives.

Day 2:  Taught the clinical process and content of DBT from theory to practice. It went beyond prescriptive applications, this seminar showed how to use essentials such as validation, dialectical strategies, communication styles, and the best ways of changing behaviors in order to effectively balance acceptance and change with her clients.

She has been able to return with a vast amount of knowledge increasing her competency with DBT and passing it on to others as part of their recovery process.

At the Dale & Hancock Center we strive to make every individual that walks through our doors life better.  Because, It Gets Better, and we are doing everything we can to help make that happen.  Continuing education is a huge part of our success and we are so thankful for the opportunities like this particular one Utahna attended.
